Ibibio Sound Machine: Electricity (CD)

"Electricity" is Ibibio Sound Machine's fourth and most progressive album, and like all good Afrofuturist stories, it begins with an existential crisis. "It's darker than anything we've done before," says Eno Williams, the group's vocalist. "That's because it evolved from the turmoil of the last year. It lives in an edgier world." "Electricity" was produced by Grammy Award- and Mercury Prize-nominated British synth-pop group Hot Chip. The collaboration grew out of the bands' encounters at joint festivals and their shared love of Francis Bebey and Giorgio Moroder The fruits of their labor are a glossy, supercharged, Afrofuturistic flyover.
